Is Afzaa Altaf, Daughter of Altaf Hussain, Returning to Pakistan for Politics? MQM Responds!

Published:

Recent rumors regarding Afzaa Altaf, daughter of Altaf Hussain, the founder of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), stepping into the political arena in Pakistan have been firmly denied by MQM officials.

In a statement released on the social media platform X, MQM London called the reports misleading and fabricated. The party’s spokesperson specifically refuted claims made by an Islamabad news agency on October 4, which suggested that Afzaa would be returning to Pakistan to engage in politics.

The spokesperson emphasized that both MQM workers and the general public are aware of Altaf Hussain’s opposition to not only the feudal system but also to dynastic politics. This is a significant point, given the context of political dynasties in Pakistan.

The initial report claimed that Afzaa Altaf intended to replace her father in politics and was set to contest elections from her father’s ancestral constituency in Azizabad, Karachi. It even hinted at an official announcement from MQM Pakistan, indicating that she would receive a warm welcome upon her arrival in the country.

However, the MQM’s denial stressed that Altaf Hussain has never participated in elections himself and has not permitted close relatives to do so. The spokesperson described the news as completely baseless and requested journalists to avoid spreading unverified or fabricated information.
