Clouds have popped up over the northern and northeastern parts of Karachi, bringing some showers to areas like Orangi Town. According to the Met Department, thunderstorms are brewing around Hub, northeast of the city, and might hit places like Gadap, Manghopir, and North Karachi soon with some gusty winds and light rain.
The Cyclone Alert Center says areas like Super Highway, DHA City, Surjani Town, Gadap, Scheme 33, Malir, and Bin Qasim could also see rain with strong winds. It’s all because there’s a low-pressure system over the southeastern Arabian Sea, sitting about 1,000 kilometers southeast of Karachi. This system could turn into a depression in the next two or three days and start heading northwest.
For now, there’s no immediate danger to Pakistan’s coastal areas from this system, but the Cyclone Warning Center is keeping an eye on it, just in case.
Earlier, Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz told Geo News that Karachi might see light rain and windstorms today, though it probably won’t cool things down too much. Temperatures in the city could still hit up to 40°C. But don’t worry, relief is on the way, as Sardar Sarfraz mentioned that after October 20, temperatures in Karachi are expected to drop. In the northern regions of Pakistan, nighttime temps have already dropped into single digits.
Sarfraz also mentioned the low-pressure system brewing southeast of the Arabian Sea. It could become a depression in a day or two, and if the weather stays favorable, it might even turn into a tropical cyclone. Typically, post-monsoon cyclones head towards Oman, so as of now, Pakistan’s coastlines are safe.
