Chipotle offers chance to win one free meal a day

Published:

In 2003, Chipotle issued its first Celebrity Card to Ozzy Osborne, who sang the praises of the fast-casual restaurant chain on his then-hit reality show. In the 21 years to follow, many other celebrities and superfans have been graced with the recognition. Now it’s your turn.

Chipotle plans to give up to five customers their own Celebrity Card, which will give them access to one free meal a day at the restaurant as well as catering for up to 50 people once a year. Want in? You’ll have to submit a video, photo, poem, essay, artwork, song, or other expression of your devotion to the chain, explaining why you deserve the card.

Fans can submit their application for the card through July 3 via TikTok, Instgram and Twitter/X, using the hashtag #CelebCardContest. Winners will be contacted on July 12.

One catch: The benefits of this particular Celebrity Card are only good for one year, not forever.

The competition was originally planned as a tie-in with LinkedIn, but high demand caused it to pivot to other platforms. Applications submitted via the LinkedIn form (which has been taken down) will still be counted as eligible entries.

“There’s always been a special mystique around the Chipotle Celebrity Card,” Chris Brandt, chief brand officer at Chipotle, said in a statement. “We are expanding on what it means to be a Chipotle celebrity and relaunching the program to deepen our connections with our most devoted guests.”

Chipotle has never really given a lot of visibility into how it chooses people to receive a Celebrity Card, much less the terms/perks that go with it. The company is regularly besieged by influencers and others who hope to get one, though, it says.

The company has managed to reverse its fortunes since 2018, becoming a favorite of Generation Z and Wall Street. On Tuesday, it will implement a 50-for-1 stock split, which will bring shares from a lofty $3,241 to a more attainable $65 or so.
