Despite not playing for his club since April 27 due to a muscle injury, the Manchester United defender has made it into Gareth Southgate’s 33-man preliminary England squad for Euro 2024. He was absent during the FA Cup final, in which Manchester United secured their first trophy of the season by defeating rivals Manchester City.

According to the Daily Mail, while many of his colleagues have gone on holiday after the season’s end, Maguire has opted to focus on his fitness in preparation for the upcoming European Championships. The 31-year-old attended England’s training session on Tuesday, ahead of several other players joining the camp. Joining him in the effort to recover from injuries are his Manchester United teammate Luke Shaw and Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon.

The majority of the Three Lions squad, excluding Jude Bellingham, Kobbie Mainoo, and four Manchester City players, will begin training under Southgate’s guidance starting May 29.

WHAT’S AHEAD FOR ENGLAND?

The Euro 2020 runners-up are scheduled to play friendly matches against Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 3 and Iceland on June 7.
