Seth Jarvis posted two goals and two assists as Carolina Hurricanes avoided a season-worst four-game losing streak by blowing past Utah Hockey Club in a 7-3 victory Saturday afternoon at Raleigh, N.C.
Carolina’s Sebastian Aho had two goals and an assist, Jalen Chatfield notched a goal and an assist, Jordan Martinook and Jack Roslovic added late goals and Andrei Svechnikov and Jackson Blake racked up two assists each. Pyotr Kochetkov made 36 saves to secure his 20th victory of the season.
Clayton Keller scored two goals and Josh Doan had a goal for Utah, which never led. Karel Vejmelka collected 31 saves.
The Hurricanes scored at even strength, on a power play and short-handed in a four-goal second period, which began with the teams tied at 1.
Jarvis scored the go-ahead goal 6:25 into the period. A couple of minutes later, Aho intercepted Vejmelka’s misdirected clearing pass and made one move to fire into an open net for a 3-1 lead.
Utah’s Keller notched an unassisted goal to cut the gap to 3-2.
With Brent Burns in the penalty box for roughing, Jarvis chased down a puck along the boards and passed to Aho, who converted for the short-handed goal and a 4-2 edge with 5:46 to play in the second. Aho has scored in six of the last nine games.
Keller’s third-period goal gives him a team-high 20 for the season.
Before the second-period flurry, the Hurricanes held a 16-8 edge in first-period shots.
Chatfield went on a 2-on-1 breakaway with Jordan Staal, delivering the goal at 10:09 of the first period. It ended Chatfield’s 15-game stretch without a goal.
Doan’s first goal in 12 games came with 2:25 to play in the opening period on a power play.
Carolina forward Mikko Rantanen, recently acquired from Colorado, missed the game with a lower-body injury. He has one goal and one assist in six games since joining the team.
It marked the final game for the Hurricanes before a two-week layoff for the 4 Nations Face-Off, while Utah visits Washington on Sunday before its break.
