“Today’s transfer meeting with Pochettino reveals an intriguing player with an uncertain future.”
Mauricio Pochettino tends to keep his cards pretty close to his chest when it comes to transfer talk. He’s always able to just deflect the question by saying it’s not his job, and that the media need to ask the sporting directors – which of course they can’t.
So it was interesting to hear him open up a bit yesterday. Asked about potential January moves he revealed he had a meeting planned for today with the recruitment heads, and even mentioned a specific player who could be in the mix:
“We didn’t talk about names. At the moment we are not talking about players.
“I saw Behdad, with Paul and Laurence. I think tomorrow we are going to have a chat. We didn’t talk about names or players. For now we are focusing on players like Andrey Santos.”
It will be very interesting to see what they do with Santos. On the one hand we’re very thin in midfield. On the other hand, there are players like Lesley Ugochukwu and Romeo Lavia eternally close to returning and blocking Santos’ path, potentially turning a wasted 6 months into a wasted season.
