Weather update; Rain likely in Lahore and parts of Punjab

Irregular rains and gusty winds are expected in Lahore and various parts of Punjab on Tuesday evening/night and for the following two days. These rains will help alleviate the current heat wave by lowering temperatures.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), continental air is prevalent over most parts of Pakistan, with high pressure in the upper atmosphere expected to persist until May 28. A shallow westerly wave is likely to affect the upper parts of the country starting from the evening/night of May 28.

Under these conditions, heat waves are anticipated to continue in Lahore and the plains of Punjab on Tuesday, with day temperatures expected to be 4 to 6°C above normal. Intermittent rain, wind, and thunderstorms are predicted from Tuesday evening/night (May 28) until June 1, which will gradually reduce the intensity of the ongoing heat wave.

In Lahore, maximum temperatures are forecasted to range between 43-45°C on Tuesday and 42-44°C on Wednesday.

Over the past 24 hours, heat waves persisted in Lahore and the plains of Punjab. Bhakkar and Rahim Yar Khan recorded the highest temperatures in the province at 50°C, while Kot Addu and Dera Ghazi Khan reached 49°C. In Lahore, the maximum temperature was 44°C, with evening relative humidity at 36 percent.
