Home Alone isn’t part of Kieran Culkin’s holiday tradition — at least not yet.
The Succession star, 42, revealed that he and his wife Jazz Charton, 36, have yet to show his big brother Macaulay Culkin’s iconic holiday movies to their two kids, daughter Kinsey, 5, and son Wilder, 3.
“There’s still some scary parts,” Kieran told E! News Monday, December 2, at the Gotham Awards in New York City.
“For the 3-year-old, there’s the tarantula [and] there’s the guy at the end who said, ‘I’m gonna bite off all your fingers.’ That’s scary for a 3-year-old,” Kieran continued.
However, Kieran shared with the outlet that this year might be the year Kinsey and Wilder watch Uncle Macaulay take on the Wet Bandits.
“We think they might be ready for Home Alone this year. If not, next year,” said the Emmy winner.
Kieran’s older brother, Macaulay, 44, shot to fame as a child star after starring in 1990’s Home Alone and 1992’s Home Alone 2: Lost In New York. A young Kieran himself has a role in the two movies as Fuller McCallister, protagonist Kevin McCallister’s younger cousin.
In a March 2023 interview with Esquire, Kieran recalled how he felt sorry for his older brother’s sudden fame at a young age.
“Even at that time, as a kid, I remember thinking, ‘That sucks for him.’ Poor f—ing guy,” he said. “He was little and having to try to accept that level of fame as reality.”
It was seeing his brother’s meteoric Hollywood rise that made Kieran reluctant to commit to acting after his Home Alone roles. In 2002, he starred in his breakout movie, Igby Goes Down.
“I had this unhealthy relationship with what I did for a living,” he said. “I really wanted to do it, but I didn’t want to be successful at it.”
While Kieran is waiting to show his kids Home Alone, Macaulay has already shown the movie to his and longtime partner Brenda Song’s eldest son, Dakota, 3. (The couple also share another son, Carson, who turns 2 this month.)
“I already showed it to him last year, he thinks it’s so funny,” Macaulay told Entertainment Tonight in December 2023. “I convinced my oldest that he’s the kid in the movie. I said, ‘Remember you had yellow hair? Remember when you were getting the bad guys?’ He’s like, ‘Yeah!’ He is such a liar. I’m like, ‘You don’t remember any of that.’”
